Call campaigns
The objective almost nobody in this set runs, on a channel where the customer is holding the phone already.
What the objective actually does
A call ad puts a button on the creative that dials your number directly. There is no form, no landing page and no lead to follow up: the phone rings, and either someone answers it or the opportunity is gone in the eight seconds the homeowner is prepared to wait.
Meta optimises toward people likely to call and, where the integration exists, toward calls that last beyond a set duration, which is a crude but real proxy for a call that went somewhere.
Why it fits HVAC better than it fits almost anything else
Emergency demand is the strongest case for this objective anywhere in local services. A homeowner with no heat in February has stopped researching. They are calling someone, and mostly they are calling whoever is in front of them.
It is also the objective most dependent on something Meta cannot control. A call campaign pointed at a phone nobody answers is worse than no campaign, because you have paid for the moment of highest intent and then dropped it.
Why so few agencies here run it
Of the agencies on this ledger, none names a call objective as something they run. Several track phone calls as a conversion, which is a different thing: it means they measure calls that happen, not that they buy them.
The honest reading is that call campaigns are harder to report on. There is no form submission to count, call tracking has to be wired up before anything is measurable, and the quality of the outcome depends on the client's own office rather than on the agency. All of that is real. None of it makes the objective wrong for an emergency service business.
What has to be true before you run one
Someone answers, during the hours the ads run. Dayparting a call campaign to your actual staffed hours is the difference between an expensive experiment and a working channel.
Calls are tracked, with duration, so a thirty-second wrong number does not count the same as a four-minute booking.
The number on the ad is a tracking number, or you will never know which calls came from where.
- Are we running a call objective, or just counting calls that happen?
- What hours do the call ads run, and who is answering in those hours?
- What is our answer rate, and what happens to the calls we miss?
- What counts as a qualified call, by duration or by outcome?
