Advantage+ against manual

Meta would like to choose your audience, your placements and your budget split. Sometimes that is the right call, and the cases where it is not are specific.

Work performed

What is actually on offer

Advantage+ is a family of automations rather than one thing. Advantage+ audience takes your targeting as a suggestion and looks outside it. Advantage+ placements puts the ad wherever Meta thinks it will perform. Campaign budget optimisation moves money between ad sets on Meta's judgement rather than yours.

Each can be run on its own. An agency that talks about "Advantage+" as a single switch has not thought about which parts they want.

Where automation genuinely wins for HVAC

Broad geographic service areas with real volume. If you serve a metro and spend enough to produce fifty-plus optimisation events a week, Meta finds pockets of demand a human would not have targeted, and it does it continuously.

Seasonal swings. Demand moves faster than a monthly optimisation call, and automated budget movement responds to a heat wave in hours rather than at the next review.

Where it reliably loses

Tight service areas. A contractor covering four postcodes cannot afford an algorithm that decides the best customers are ninety minutes away. Advantage+ audience treats your radius as a starting point, and the jobs it finds outside it cost more to serve than they earn.

Low volume. Below the learning threshold, automation has nothing to learn from and you have handed over control in exchange for noise.

Placement quality. Left alone, Meta will spend a meaningful share of the budget on Audience Network, which for home services produces the cheapest and worst leads in the account. Checking the placement breakdown before accepting an automated setup is a two-minute job that frequently pays for itself.

The honest position

This is a volume question rather than a philosophy question. Enough weekly events and automation beats manual management. Below that, manual control is not nostalgia, it is the only way to stop a small budget being spread across places it cannot learn from.

Questions for the call
  1. Which Advantage+ features are on, and which did we choose to leave off?
  2. What share of spend went to Audience Network last month?
  3. How many optimisation events a week is each ad set getting?
  4. If we are outside our service area, how would we know?
